There are many ways to get involved at Our Saviour’s. Whatever you’re good at, interested in, or love to do, there’s a place for you to serve here.
Altar Guild
Members of the Altar Guild are responsible for setting the Lord’s table for Communion, decorating the sanctuary for each church season, caring for and cleaning the vessels and linens used in the Eucharist, setting the hymn board, making sure flowers, candles and other sacramental items are in place, and keeping the Sacristy clean and well supplied.
Finance
Members of the Finance ministry manage the overall finances of the church, administer special project funds, and work with the pastor, the Church Council, and the chairpersons of each ministry team to establish and monitor the annual budget.
Learning
Members of the Learning ministry, working with the pastor, are responsible for planning the curricula for Sunday School, Adult Discussion, First Communion, Confirmation, Vacation Bible School and other programs, and ensuring that teachers, discussion leaders, volunteers and learning resources are available for all classes and activities.
Memorial Gifts
The Memorial Gifts ministry manages donations to the Memorial Fund, ensuring gifts are used in accordance with family wishes and donors are appropriately acknowledged.
Mutual Ministry
Mutual Ministry acts to enhance the mutual relationships between the pastor, lay professionals and the congregation. Members of this ministry ensure that the spiritual, emotional, physical, educational and financial needs of the pastor and lay professionals are being met, and that, in turn, the pastor and lay professionals understand and are meeting the needs of the congregation.
Property
The Property ministry is responsible for the care and upkeep of all church property. This includes planning for regular maintenance of the building and grounds, through both paid and volunteer services. Property members also play a vital role advising on and helping manage major capital projects, such as building renovations or expansions.
Social Ministry
Social Ministry members are responsible for planning and organizing all outreach programs to serve the needy in surrounding communities and around the world. This ministry works closely with existing mission partners, but also identifies new and emerging needs and finds organizations and volunteers able to address them.
Stewardship
The Stewardship ministry helps the congregation develop and grow its spiritual gifts for serving, caring and giving in grateful response to God’s abundance in our lives. It organizes the annual pledge drive, and encourages learning about and celebrating all the ways we care for and generously use God’s gifts of time, talents, treasure, creation, relationships and health to support God’s work in the service of God’s people.
WELCA
Women of the ELCA is a national organization of Lutheran women who gather for service, study, advocacy and fellowship. Among their many activities, WELCA members at Our Saviour’s knit prayer shawls for the elderly and ill, support fundraising events at the Lutheran Home of Southbury, and raise money for other ministries.
Witness
Members of the Witness ministry are responsible for communicating the church’s faith-building and outreach activities through public relations, advertising, publications and the church’s website. Witness also is responsible for organizing fellowship activities, and for creating a welcoming environment for visitors and newcomers to the church.
Worship
The Worship ministry directs the worship life of the church. Using the church’s liturgical traditions as a starting point, this group considers which forms of worship and music are appropriate for the congregation, for certain occasions and for certain times of year. It actively seeks lay participation in worship, recruiting and training preachers, assisting ministers, lectors, acolytes and choir members, and works closely with the Altar Guild.
Youth
The Youth ministry, both adult mentors and youth leaders, is responsible for planning all the activities of By Faith Alone, the youth group of Our Saviour’s. These include social and service activities, fundraisers, and faith-building gatherings with other young people.
