Music Staff & Associates

Alice Caldwell, Music Director/Cantor since 2005, is a “cradle” Lutheran who first experienced the joy of group singing in Sunday School singalongs. Her experience as a church musician includes positions with the Episcopal Church, the United Church of Christ, and other Lutheran churches. Alice completed majors in organ performance and music history at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, then continued her education in historical musicology, earning a Ph.D. in music history at New York University. She maintains a research interest in the music of the worldwide Moravian Church through editing, writing and presenting. Following studies at the Hartt School of the University of Hartford, Alice became a certified pre-K through grade 12 music educator and taught general and vocal music at Redding Elementary School for eighteen years. Most recently she has been an adjunct professor of music history at the University of Bridgeport. Her professional affiliations include the Association of Lutheran Church Musicians, the American Guild of Organists, and the Organization of American Kodály Educators.

Josué Bustamante, Artist-in-Residence, has been affiliated with our music program since 2017, starting as a Music Intern. Josh is a graduate of the University of Bridgeport, where he majored in music education and violin performance. At Our Saviour’s he enriches our program as a guest performer, sometimes along with his family string ensemble and other collaborators.  He teaches privately and in area schools, and is active in organizations including the Greater Connecticut Youth Orchestras and KEYS Music. To inquire about performance engagements or lessons, contact Josh at:  joshdbusta@gmail.com.

Music Intern (currently vacant). For many years, Our Saviour’s has sponsored young musicians engaged in college-level study of music while participating in our music program. Music Interns perform occasionally in our church services and may help to mentor our younger musicians. During summer breaks we help them present a concert to benefit their studies and to showcase their progress.  Many former interns stay connected and join our music offerings at holiday and special services.

For more information, please contact Dr. Alice Caldwell, our music director, through the church office.
