Our Saviour’s supports a number of community groups by offering them use of our space for meetings and other activities.
One such group, Project from the Heart, gathers on Thursday mornings to assemble care packages sent to our armed forces in Iraq and Afghanistan. This local nonprofit organization has shipped more than 7,000 care packages to members of the military since 2002.
The church also hosts special community music programs, including a benefit concert in which local high school musicians performed to raise money for Habitat for Humanity.
Among other groups that use the church for meetings is Alcoholics Anonymous. AA holds a regular meeting at Our Saviour's every Friday night at 7:00 pm.
If your group is interested in using our space, please contact us for further information.
Mission Partners
We are the body of Christ in the world, and just as our own bodies have many parts, each with their own functions that work together, we also work together, using our God-given talents for the greater good of the world.
Doing more than we could by ourselves, we partner with other groups to make the world a better place. Here are some of them:
Â
Calumet Lutheran Camp and Conference Center (www.calumet.org)
Located in New Hampshire, Calumet is the outdoor ministry center of the New England Synod of the ELCA and a popular destination for Our Saviour’s members: children go to sleep-away camp, teens attend confirmation camp and serve as counselors, and adults and families vacation and participate in retreats there.
Â
The Council of Churches of Greater Bridgeport (www.ccgb.org)As a member congregation, we support a variety of CCGB programs, including Janus Center, which provides shelter to boys and girls ages 11-17 who feel in danger or are experiencing serious conflict at home, in school or with law enforcement; Project Learn, which helps school children do their homework and succeed in school; and the CO-OP Center, which helps men and women succeed in transitioning from court and correctional supervision to independence.
Â
Â
Covenant to Care for Children (www.covenanttocare.org) Our Saviour’s is an active partner with Covenant to Care, a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of Connecticut's abused and neglected children. We regularly provide cribs, beds, school backpacks, diapers, formula, clothing, Easter baskets, Christmas gifts, gift cards, and other goods and services to help the children assisted by this organization.
Â
Habitat for Humanity of Coastal Fairfield County (www.habitatcfc.org)
Our Saviour’s supports this nonprofit, Christian housing organization with monetary contributions and monthly volunteer work to build simple, affordable homes for low-income families.
Â
Lutheran Social Services of New England (www.lssne.org)
LSSNE supports 48 Lutheran social ministry programs in New England, including an adoption program, a refugee program, a program for single mothers and their children, an adults with disabilities program, a children and teens program, the Good News Garage car-donation program, and older adult programs, including the Lutheran Home of Southbury and the Neighbor to Neighbor eldercare program, began by members of Our Saviour’s.
Â
Operation Hope (www.operationhopect.org)
Operation Hope offers services to people who are homeless or at risk of being homeless, including separate shelters for men, women and families, a Community Kitchen and a Food Pantry. In addition, Operation Hope owns and operates rental housing units for low-income individuals and families through its Micah Housing affiliate. Our former pastor, the Rev. Henry Morris, was a founding member of Operation Hope, and our congregation continues to provide regular support through gifts of food, health and beauty items and monetary donations.
Community Supper – Our Saviour’s is among area churches that regularly participate in the Community Supper program to feed the hungry and homeless at Golden Hill United Methodist Church in Bridgeport. Volunteers cook, serve and clean up after the meal, and donate clothing.
Fairfield Counseling Services (www.fcsinc.org) – A member of Our Saviour’s serves on the Board of Trustees for this private, nonprofit counseling ministry established in 1969 to help improve the mental and emotional well being of adolescents, adults and families in the Town of Fairfield.
Weekend Backpack Project – Our Saviour’s members contribute food to fill school backpacks, providing much-needed meals for underprivileged children on weekends and school breaks, when federally funded school breakfasts and lunches are not available. The backpacks are distributed through Golden Hill United Methodist Church, Bridgeport.
